Every last Sunday of the month

4:30pm – 6:00pm

Location: 200 S Church St., West Chester, PA 19382

Category: Special Event

Sunday Night Theology is designed to provide extended time of Bible teaching as well as talks about current issues that should be addressed by the church of Jesus Christ. The Journey Church will provide excellent resources and work to bring some of the finest speakers here to our church as both a ministry to our members as well as an outreach to our community. These are occasions when you can invite others who might not otherwise come to a church to come and listen to our Sunday evening talks.

Upcoming SNT Talks:

God of the Covenant (Part 1) — God’s work in the world was established by covenants in the history of redemption. The Covenants of God provide a structure by which the church of Jesus Christ has understood Covenant Theology through the centuries.  From to start to finish, the Bible takes into account the unfolding shape of God’s work in the world and his unfolding relationship with humanity. This relationship always takes the form of a covenant, and Covenant Theology attempts to trace the development of these covenants throughout the whole of Scripture. God’s purposes for each Christian and for his church are grounded in these Covenants which still remain viable as the the end of all things draws near. This SNT talk will be led by Dr. Raymond Johnson on Sunday, July 30, 2017.

God of the Covenant (Part 2) — The gospel is not properly understood until it is viewed within a covenantal framework. "The distance between God and the creature is so great," says the Philadelphia Confession of Faith (VII.I), "that although reasonable creatures do owe obedience to him as their Creator, yet they could never have attained the reward of life, but by some voluntary condescension on God's part, which he hath been pleased to express by way of covenant.” As J.I. Packer states, "So biblical doctrine, first to last, has to do with covenantal relationships between God and man; biblical ethics has to do with expressing God's covenantal relationship to us in covenantal relationships between ourselves and others; and Christian religion has the nature of covenant life, in which God is the direct object of our faith, hope, love, worship, and service, all animated by gratitude for grace.” Each Covenant - from the Covenant of Works to the New Covenant - reveals more of God’s character and intentions for his people. This SNT talk will be led by Dr. Raymond Johnson on Sunday, August 27, 2017.

Philadelphia: Center of a Baptist Witness — Baptists in this region first met in an abandoned warehouse in the tiny but growing town of Philadelphia, PA. Prior to the time of the American Founding, the Philadelphia Baptist Association established the Philadelphia Confession of Faith in 1742. Philadelphia’s First Baptist Church played a crucial role in the establishment of churches in the city, and it was the Philadelphia Confession that upheld the local churches in their efforts to build a robust discipleship among church members, evangelize the areas adjacent to the city, engage in missions overseas, and maintain a faithful trust in the faith, once for all delivered to the saints. On this 275th anniversary of the Philadelphia Confession, the call to maintain a strong and faithful confessionalism is crucial for a gospel witness in the 21st century.  This SNT talk will be led by Dr. Tom Nettles on Sunday, 24, 2017.
